We have a few free days during the winter holidays at India House and the cottages at Bastiaanskloof and we have put together a list of things to do at the estate and in the surrounding areas for both adults and kids!
Request our menu for a list of our home cooked meals – great to heat up on arrival or anytime during your stay. One of the popular dishes at the moment is our lamb knuckle stew, served with a winter salad followed by my mum’s amazing apple crumble with cream!
Baking with Sonia
Sonia Holland is the head housekeeper at Bastiaanskloof and would be very happy to show the kids how to bake her chocolate chip cookies and delicious bread.
Or if you consider yourself a bit of a baker or foodie, but never have the time, utilise the holidays to whip up some gourmet creations – the kitchen has all the gadgets required for any baker or cook including two ovens.
Massages with Wendy
While Sonia is busy with the kids, book a massage with Wendy, our mobile masseuse who will come to the house or cottages!
Wildlife spotting and hiking
Guests are provided with booklets of Western Cape Fynbos Flora and Fauna to check off as these are spotted – one of our caretakers would be very happy to teach any kids (or adults) about what we have at the farm as well as to guide guests on our hiking trails.
We also have released many tortoises in around India house and the cottages that were rescued by the SPCA Wildlife Rescue Team which kids love – we have both the large Cape Mountain Tortoises and the smaller geometric tortoises.
We can also arrange day visits to the nearby Fairy Glen Private Nature Reserve where the Big 5 can be viewed – a half an hour trip from Bastiaanskloof.
Games and Croquet and our library
The house has plenty of games, like risk, 30 seconds, monopoly and so forth if the weather is not great outside.
Opposite India House we have croquet set up on the lawn for croquet championship matches for kids and adults alike!
The house also has many books to dip into as well as piles of magazines – reading these days seems to be a luxury, one that India House certainly allows the time to do!
One of my abiding childhood memories of June/July holidays in the Cape was spent watching Wimbledon in front of the fireplace eating my mum’s chocolate fudge cake….we would be very happy to recreate this for you at Bastiaanskloof!
Snow in Ceres
At this time of year you are very likely to see snow on the mountains around Bastiaanskloof and an outing to the Ceres’ Matroosberg is only a 30 minute drive away from us and will delight both children and adults, it is R50 per adult and R30 per child to enter this private nature reserve.
For bookings please contact us at reservations@bastiaanskloof or on 0761980234!
We hope to welcome you to Bastiaanskloof this Winter!
